Thank you for your interest in the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering. We hope you will consider the Department carefully for your graduate education. We have an outstanding graduate program in Structural Engineering, Engineering Mechanics, Transportation Engineering, Water Resources, and Environmental Engineering. The Department has 21 faculty members with research expenditures between 2 and 3 million dollars annually. Included in our faculty is a Distinguished University Professor, Dr. Alberto Sagues, and a Florida 21st Century Scholar, Dr. Jim Mihelcic. Our strong educational and research efforts are further strengthened by our close connections with the Center for Urban Transportation Research. The University is dedicated to expanding the College of Engineering. These are exciting times in the Department. As part of the University expansion program, we will be fully supporting 22 new PhD candidates to the Department next year. We hope that you will avail yourself of this opportunity to further your graduate education. We look forward to seeing you next fall. |

The Department of Electrical Engineering at the University of South Florida offers Doctoral and Master’s level degrees. The Department’s research efforts are supported by well-equipped laboratories in the areas of silicon processing, compound semiconductors, electro-optics, IC design, thin dielectric films, communications and signal processing, power systems, nanotechnology, MEMS, micro/millimeter waves, biomedical materials and imaging, and bioengineering. Current and previous Ph.D. dissertations explored the areas of microelectronics (materials and devices of elemental and compound semiconductors, circuit design, modeling, testing, and reliability); biomedical systems and pattern recognition, medical imaging, image processing and analysis, communications and signal processing (communication networks, packet switching, satellite communications, communications software, and VLSI for signal processing); systems and controls; solid state material and device processing and characterization; electro-optics; electromagnetics, microwave and millimeter-wave engineering (antennas, devices, systems); and biomedical engineering. Master’s programs include options in semiconductor materials and processes, VLSI design, communications and signal processing, power systems and controls, microwave and millimeter wave engineering, biomedical engineering, biomedical systems, and medical imaging. In the last ten to fifteen years, societal changes and technological advances have spurred a number of innovative opportunities for further improving the well being of our nation. Many of these opportunities are complex and dynamic, and benefiting from them requires sophisticated interdisciplinary approaches. Several of the critical areas that have emerged - healthcare delivery, energy, manufacturing of nanodevices, global networks, and critical infrastructure - have inspired and broaden the research and educational agenda of the Department of Industrial and Management Systems Engineering (IMSE) at USF. We have recently recruited talented young faculty and significantly expanded our doctoral program to over 35 full-time students from all over the world. Most students are actively engaged in research projects that transcend the boundaries of traditional manufacturing. Working hand-in-hand with the faculty on grants and collaborative projects, sponsored by federal agencies, professional societies, and private businesses, provides our students with great lifelong experience that better prepare them for the challenges of their careers. The IMSE faculty has forged collaborations with faculty and practitioners in other disciplines including medicine, business, education, mathematics, nursing, and public health. The major areas of research in the department are |
