On February 24th, 2008, Engineers Without Borders at USF held its first 5k race, "Tampa's Tropical Trot 5k". All proceeds that were raised by the event will be directed toward their upcoming international water project in the Dominican Republic titled "Water for Miches".
For the project, EWB at USF members will travel to the city of Miches located in the province of El Seibo, the second poorest province in the Dominican Republic. It is in Miches that the students will implement a water system that will provide a community of approximately 500 people with potable water.
Students along with professional engineers and academics plan the project and raise all funds to pay for the water system. For more information on the organization, please visit http://ctr.usf.edu/ewb or email ewbusf@gmail.com.
