Quenton Bonds Awarded IEEE Fellowship Microwave Theory and Techniques (MTT-S) Fellowship

Quenton Bonds, a Ph.D. candidate in the Department of Electrical Engineering, has been selected as one of two winners from a nationwide pool of applicants to receive a IEEE Microwave Theory and Techniques (MTT-S) Graduate Fellowship for Medical Applications for 2009. The purpose of the prestigious award is to recognize and provide financial assistance to graduate students who show great promise in applying microwave engineering towards medical applications.

Quenton, a member of the RF Microsystems Research Group, was chosen for the award based upon his prior academic accomplishments and dissertation research "A Microwave Radiometer and Measurement Test Bed for Close Proximity Non-Invasive Biomedical Sensing Applications". This work is developing a unique approach for noninvasive biomedical sensing using non-contact radiometric sensors that could be integrated into the uniforms of military servicemen and astronauts. The fellowship award will be presented at a special luncheon during the 2009 International Microwave Symposium (IMS), from June 7-12, in Boston, MA.
