Where do I send my application materials?
All applications should be mailed to USF Admissions and once processed, that
office will forward your application to the department (If you mail your
application to the department first, it would result in a delay). The addresses
for Admissions are:
For international applicants:
The University of South Florida,
Office of International Admissions,
4202 E Fowler Avenue, CPR 107,
Tampa, Florida 33620-7910. |
For US residents:
The University of South Florida,
Office of Graduate Admissions,
4202 E Fowler Avenue, FAO 174,
Tampa, Florida 33620-7910.
|
The letters of recommendation and statement of purpose can be included with
your application packet OR mailed directly to the department.
How do I find out the status of my application?
The International Admissions office communicates the status to applicants via
e-mail. International applicants should go to
http://web.usf.edu/iac/admissions/ . If you are not getting your status
from Admissions via email, you can update your email address through the above
website. Please know that once a departmental decision is reached, it may take
some time for that decision to be approved by the Graduate School and reflected
in the official application status.
When will I know the decision.....(on my application/assistantships/I-20)?
This is the hardest question to answer. The university receives thousands of
applications each year and it takes time for applications to be reviewed and
processed. Know that the university staff and faculty are doing their best to
process your application and make decisions on assistantships and visas as soon
as possible. It is highly suggested that applicants review appropriate websites
and submit requested materials as early as possible. Please know that in taking
time to respond to individual queries about status, staff members have that
much less time to actually process paperwork, resulting in a delay for everyone
involved. Your patience is appreciated during the application process!
What are the departmental codes for GRE and TOEFL score reporting?
The departmental code is not needed. If you ask the ETS to report your scores
to USF (Institution Code 5828), that will be sufficient for the scores to reach
the Admissions office. Your scores will then be forwarded from Admissions to
the department and the first choice program listed on your application. Please
allow time for this to happen.
Have you received my official test scores?
The official GRE and TOEFL test scores are sent directly from ETS to the USF
Admissions office. However, this is not necessarily a problem in getting you a
departmental decision on your application because....
Can I send unofficial test scores?
You can fax unofficial scores to the department or include the copies of the
unofficial test scores with the application packet. However, any admittance
granted by the department would not be considered final by the university until
the official scores are received.
How can I apply for assistantships?
ALL newly-admitted applicants are automatically considered for assistantships
by the departments, so the best way to ensure you will be considered is to get
your complete application to graduate school submitted as early as possible.
Do I need to send in the financial statement if I need an assistantship?
Yes, please complete and send in the financial statement portion of the
application to Admissions as soon as possible, using the information on your
current financial situation.
Questions about the financial statement should be directed to the Admissions
office. Departments do not require the financial statement in order to make a
decision on a graduate application, but it is vital that the applicant follows
up on any requests from Admissions office about it because it could delay
issuance of any visas.
When will I get my I-20?
All applicants should look for answers to their inquiries on
http://web.usf.edu/iac/admissions/ . This site is updated daily and
includes all the latest information.
How do I appeal a denial?
If you wish to appeal a denied application decision, you must provide
documentation for reconsideration (e.g. improved test scores or updated
transcripts) that was not originally reviewed. Please follow the procedures set
forth on
http://admissions.grad.usf.edu/appeal.html.
How do I defer admittance?
Please go to
http://admissions.grad.usf.edu/deferments.html.
