Wireless
Infrastructure |
| |
The College of Engineering has three main buildings. Each of the three main buildings (ENB, ENC, ENG) is completely covered with wireless capabilities. Several wireless access points were added during summer semester to expand the coverage and to increase signal strength. For a complete coverage map of the college and the entire University, please visit: http://www.net.usf.edu/wireless.

Servers |
| |
Engineering Computing has purchased a new server, Sunfire V890 that has eight 1.35 GHz dual core SPARC IV CPUs, 64 GB RAM and 1.5 TB disk space. This server will be used to host compute intensive applications. This server will be on fair share scheduler and the scheduler has been configured so that faculty and graduate students doing research will get increased CPU time and memory. This scheduling scheme will be useful for graduate theses, dissertations and research.
We have upgraded our existing V-880 server sunblast and have added 0.5 TB of disk space (six new disks). We have increased the /tmp space on the server from 30GB to 160GB. /tmp is a large shared space where a user can write and read files that may otherwise not fit in his or her own directory structure due to quota limitations. Also, sunblast now has Gigabit connection.

Computer Store |
| |
Buying a high quality, well-priced
personal computer, workstation, or network server
has become simpler and more rewarding for USF organizational
units, faculty, staff, and students making personal
or departmental purchases. Several of the world’s
leading computer manufacturers are making their
equipment available to USF at prices below the State
of Florida contract rates. These vendors were chosen
for their high quality products and superior service
performance.
