This page contains a step by step procedure of how to use the scanner.

The scanner stations in 118 has four different programs that you can use to scan your images or documents. The programs are HP Precisionscan Pro, Adobe Photoshop, OmniPage, and Adobe Acrobat Professional Edition. The first two programs are used to scan images and save them as an image file. The second two are used to scan document and save them as word files or PDF files. Your choice of the program depends on the purpose of your scan.

When saving image files, the color resolution that you choose affects the size , the type, as well as the quality of the file. To get a good quality and small size it is recommended that you choose true color resolution and save the file as a JPG file

How to scan an image:

.       Using HP Precisionscan Pro

1.      Start the program from the Start menu. Start>Programs>Multimedia Tools>HP Scanjet Utilities>HP Precision Pro.

2.      Once the program start click on "Start a new scan" on the left hand side to begin.

3.      The scanner will give you a preview of the image you are scanning. Using the mouse, select the section you want to scan.

4.      On the drop down list box on the left, select the Output Type you want. Your choice can affect the size and the format of the file you want to save.

5.      Next, click on "Save As" on the left side.

6.      On the "Save in" drop down list, select the location you want to save file to.

7.      On file name text field, enter the name of the file you want to save it into.

8.      Select the type of the file from the "Save as type" drop down list.

9.      Click on Save. Now you should be able to see your file on the location you have chosen.

.       Using Adobe Photoshop

  1. Start the program from the Start menu. Start>Programs>Multimedia Tools>Adobe>Adobe Photoshop CS. (takes a while to load)
  2. Start a new scan by going to File>Import>WIA-Hewlett-Packard Scanjet 5470C.
  3. Click on "preview" to see what is on the scanner.
  4. Select the part you want to scan and then click "scan".
  5. Next go to File>Save.
  6. Select the location where you want to save the file.
  7. Type in the name of the file.
  8. Select the format of the file (jpg is recommended).
  9. Click on "save" and then "OK" on the next message box.

How to scan a document:

.       Using OmniPage Pro

1.      Start the program from the Start menu. Start>Programs>Multimedia Tools>ScanSoft OmniPage Pro 11.0>OmniPage Pro 11.0

2.      Click on Start on the Upper right hand side of the screen.

3.      On the "Save in" drop down list, select the location you want to save file to.

4.      On file name text field, enter the name of the file you want to save it into.

5.      Select the type of the file from the "Save as type" drop down list. (*.pdf recommended)

6.      Click on Save to finish.

.       Using Adobe Acrobat Professional Edition 6.0

  1. Start the program from the Start menu. Start>Programs>Multimedia Tools>Adobe>Adobe Acrobat 6.0 Professional Edition
  2. Next go to File>Create PDF>From Scanner.
  3. On the Device Select list, choose WIA-Hewlett-Packard Scanjet 5470C.
  4. Then chose the options for the Acrobat file. (Acrobat 5 or later recommended)
  5. Click "Scan" after choosing your options.
  6. On what do you want to scan screen select "black and white picture on text" then Click on "scan"
  7. Next go to File>Save.
  8. On the "Save in" drop down list, select the location you want to save file to.
  9. On file name text field, enter the name of the file you want to save it into.
  10. Select the type of the file from the "Save as type" drop down list. (*.pdf)
  11. Click on Save to finish.

If you have multiple documents, you can use the document feeder. Just put the papers face up and follow the instructions above.
